Kamala Harris and Donald Trump share the stage for what is their first-ever meeting at the National Consitution Center in Philadelphia.
In what is perhaps their only debate before November’s presidential election, Kamala Harris and Donald Trump open the debate with disputes over the country’s economy and abortion.
Harris criticises Trump for the state of the economy when he left office, and says she instead plans to build on hopes and aspirations of the American people, and aims to create an « opportunity economy ».
“What we have done is clean up Donald Trump’s mess, » Harris says. Trump responds back and falsely touts his economy, claiming he created one of the greatest economies in the history of the country.
The Democratic vice president also warns for the dangers of the policies listed in Project 2025. Trump denies to have read the plan.
The pair continue to clash over policies surrounding abortion. Harris gave an impassioned speech on reproductive rights and says « Donald Trump certainly should not be telling a woman what to do with her body ». She warns that the former President would assign a national abortion ban if he wins.
Trump declared it “a lie,” and said, “I’m not signing a ban and there’s no reason to sign a ban.” The Republican has said he wants the issue left to the states.
