Hundreds of people gathered in Paris and across Europe on Sunday night to protest the European Union’s parliamentary election results, which saw significant gains for far-right parties.
In France, the far-right National Rally party surged ahead, prompting President Emmanuel Macron to dissolve the National Assembly and call for early legislative elections.
Protesters, including a coalition of Green, socialist, and far-left voters, chanted anti-fascist slogans and demanded unity against the extreme right.
European citizens also protested outside the European Parliament in Brussels as far-right parties made big gains in elections across the bloc.
Citizen movement, Avaaz, organised an orchestra and choir performance on the steps of the parliament.
“We have a simple message for all Europeans. It is time to unite and fight against the extreme right. They are coming for everything that we care about,” said Avaaz spokesperson, Patricia Martin.
