Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy renewed his appeal for air-defence systems after Russian strikes injured dozens across the country.
Russian strikes across Ukraine killed at least four and injured dozens more on Monday, according to local authorities.
The Ukrainian Air Force said they shot down 49 of 116 Shahed-type drones launched by Russia overnight. Moscow also attacked Ukraine with ballistic and guided aerial missiles.
Attack drones were also launched overnight on the country’s capital of Kyiv. City officials said that all were destroyed, with one man suffering facial burns.
Two people in their 70s were found dead under rubble after Russia attacked the village of Novoplatonivka, according to the governor of Kharkiv, Oleh Syniehubov.
Another person was killed in Sumy after overnight attacks hit a critical infrastructure facility, leading to blackouts in several settlements.
Fourteen people were injured, and one killed after an attack against the Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia, according to governor Ivan Fedorov.
Russian strikes across cities such as Kharkiv, Kryvyi Rih, Kherson and Donetsk injured at least 37, according to local media.
Ukraine destroyed a Russian air defence system only 60 kilometres from the front line, according to the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
As Russia carries out intense attacks on the eastern front, the Ukrainian general staff claimed to have fended off 59 attacks in the Kurakhove sector over the past day alone.
Russia is attempting to storm the Selydove sector in the Donetsk Oblast, according to Ukraine’s National Guard.
On Sunday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy posted on X that Ukraine was in need of more air defence systems to fend off Russian forces.
« This week alone, Russian terrorists have used more than 20 missiles of various types, around 800 guided aerial bombs, and over 500 strike drones of different types against Ukraine, » he said.
